Inpatient & Outpatient Therapy and Rehabilitation Services

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy are offered in the hospital setting during your recovery and to provide excellent continuity of care we provide our services on an outpatient basis also. Outpatient services are not just available for those who stay in the hospital. Yes, you can recieve the same hospital quality rehabilitative services, by calling the clinic for an appointment.

An illness or injury such as a torn ligament or debilitating stroke can compromise your health and independence and prevent you from participating in normal daily activities. The goal of our Rehabilitation Team is the enhancement of human movement and function. Our skilled team of rehabilitation specialists will educate you about your condition and help you achieve a lifestyle that affords the highest possible level of dignity, function and mobility.

Teaming Up to Improve Your Health

Our physicians, physical, occupational and speech therapists provide rehabilitation and therapy services for a wide range of illnesses and injuries. To initiate treatment, your physician may order rehabilitation services on your behalf. Based on your physician's diagnosis, one or more members of our team will perform a complete physical and/or communication assessment and develop a therapy plan for your individual needs and goals of recovery.

Orthopedic Rehabilitation

Our orthopedic program offers specialized care for diseases and injuries to the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Orthopedists, physical and occupational therapists with specialties in manual and hand rehab all help patients regain functional independence and mobility through an individualized therapy program that you can carryover into your home.  Though we have a variety of exercise equipment, we are dedicated focusing on specialized hands on approach with one-on-one supervision to individualize your recovery program for your best outcome.

Neurological/Stroke Rehabilitation

Highlands Regional Medical Center also offers a comprehensive therapy program for patients experiencing physical impairment as the result of a neurological condition, such as a stroke. We utilize a team approach that focuses on muscle retraining and improving the patient's balance, coordination, mobility, and a return to functional independence in your basic activities of daily living (ADL’s).

HRMC's Rehabilitation Department also provides evaluation and treatment for individuals who experience vertigo (light-headedness or a spinning sensation) and for unsteadiness when standing or walking due to balance disorders or other medical conditions. We

Vestibular Rehabilitation

implement a special program designed to meet that individual patient's needs.

Speech Therapy

HRMC's speech department evaluates speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallow disorders.  Speech disorders vary from dysphasia, dysarthria, stuttering and aphasia.  Our specialized therapists also utilize radiological diagnostics such as Modified Barium Swallow Studies and are certified utilizing Vital-Stim to improve recovery from swallowing disorders.
