Highlands Regional Medical Center Announces New Leadership

SEBRING, FL (February 29, 2012) — Brian Hess has been named Interim Chief Executive Officer at Highlands Regional Medical Center, effective March 1, 2012. Brian replaces Bob Mahaffey, who is retiring. Brian has been serving as CFO at Highlands Regional since 2009. Prior to that, he was the Controller at Physicians Regional Health System after beginning his healthcare finance career at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in 2000. Brian earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Regis University in Denver, CO and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Messiah College in Grantham, PA.

Vicki DeRenzis has been named Interim Chief Financial Officer at Highlands Regional Medical Center, effective March 1, 2012. Vicki was a Paralegal at a large law firm in Toronto, Canada before relocating to Sebring in 2000 to start her healthcare career in the Business Office at Highlands Regional. The last several years Vicki has served as the hospital Controller. Vicki earned a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Warner Southern University in Lake Wales, FL.

Bob Mahaffey will be relocating to Nevada to enjoy spending time and being located closer to his family in his retirement. “Mr. Mahaffey will be missed greatly by our community and our hospital. At the hospital, we are excited with Health Management Associates decision to name Brian and Vicki in these key positions and our staff is completely confident in their leadership abilities.” said hospital spokesperson Steve Nyhan. “The hospital made such huge strides to improve under Mr. Mahaffey, as a resident of the community I am personally excited and looking forward to the vision of the new leadership” Nyhan continued.
