Services at Highlands Regional Medical Center
Highlands Regional Medical Center provides general medical and surgical care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room patients, and participates in Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Emergency room services are available 24-hour per day, seven-day per week.

Among the services we provide are:

Ambulatory Care Services
The Ambulatory Care Department at Highlands Regional offers care for medical and diagnostic surgical procedures, outpatient blood transfusions, as well as minor surgery including cataracts, tonsils and adenoids, hernia repair, arthroscopy.


Cardio Pulmonary Services
We are proud that our department of full-time and PRN staff members provide a level of experienced care that is second to none. Our department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


Emergency Department
Highlands Regional Medical Center's newly renovated Emergency Department is staffed by physicians and specially trained professionals twenty-four hours a day, and is equipped to meet the medical needs of our patients. The fast paced unit, which is an "initial trauma receiving center," serves approximately one thousand patients per month. Our patients receive treatment for problems ranging from minor injuries to major trauma.

Our Emergency Department nurses are respected for their quick assessment and processing abilities by all hospital staff. Our emergency department staff is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Cardiac Life Support, and Trauma. The Emergency Department consists of thirteen treatment rooms. We are the designated trauma hospital for Highlands County for triage and determination of course of treatment.


Healthy Life Program


Intensive Care Unit
Highlands Regional Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit is a progressive 16-bed unit. Our state-of-the-art monitoring equipment has hemodynamic monitoring capabilities including cardiac output and arterial monitoring. Our Critical Care staff are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.


Laboratory
Highlands Regional Medical Center's Laboratory Department is the only lab in a three (3) county area to have CAP and AABB certifications. Under the direct supervision of a physician medical director, our Laboratory offers an extensive list of both inpatient and outpatients labs.

Medical Surgical Nursing Units
The Medical Surgical nursing staff is experienced to care for a broad variety of surgical patients undergoing most general surgeries including abdominal, ear, nose, throat, gynecology, orthopedic, and urology. The three units caring for the special needs of the medical surgical patient are all monitored, private rooms.


Minor Procedure/Endoscopic Rooms
A variety of minor surgical and procedural cases not requiring general anesthesia or a complete operating room suite are performed here. Among these are a variety of endoscopes, minor lesion removal, and biopsies.


Operating Room
The operating Room at Highlands Regional Medical Center consists of five suites - one cysto room and four major operating room suites. A wide variety of surgical cases are performed in surgical suites including orthopedic, general, vascular, plastic, ear, nose and throat, and gynecology. The Operating Room's normal hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and emergency 24 hours a day.


Post Anesthesia Care Unit
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit consists of five individually monitored beds, and is professionally monitored from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Post Anesthesia Care Unit is structured to care for all post-operative patients that have had anesthesia.


Radiology Department
One of the most impressive advancements in modern medicine today is our use of the most advanced diagnostic imaging equipment capable of pinpointing and diagnosing health problems.

The Diagnostic Imaging Department at Highlands Regional Medical Center is a full-service department with state-of-the-art equipment and technology offering the following services.


Therapy
At Highlands Regional Medical Center, we want to help you get the most out of life. The goal of our Rehabilitation Team is the enhancement of human movement and function. Our skilled team of rehabilitation specialists will educate you about your condition and help you achieve a lifestyle that affords the highest possible level of dignity, function and mobility.


Women's & Children's Center
Highlands Regional Medical Center's Women's & Children's Center is a state-of-the-art 10,000 square foot department. The Center was designed as an LDRP unit, which facilitates labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum all in the same comfortable, well-equipped room. Additionally the area has a full-service operating room for caesarean section deliveries.

Our team of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals are highly trained and prepared for any circumstance or complication. We are dedicated to providing the same high level of care found in large, urban hospital. Our Labor and delivery Nurses are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Resusation.


Wound Center
Every wound has its unique set of circumstances. Our National Healing Wound Center is equipped with 2 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chambers and staffed to address them all, with most treatments covered by Medicare/Medicaid, HMOs, and other private insurance plans. We are experts at caring for people whose open sores have resisted traditional treatment with a success rate of 80% healed in 12-16 weeks.
