Your newborn may be helpless and need cuddling to get to sleep, but experts say newborns should not sleep with their parents. In a report published in 2004 in the journal Lancet, researchers said that a newborn sleeping with his or her parents is at greater risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The best place for a newborn to sleep, experts say, is on his or her back, in a crib or bassinet.
